Bethesda, Md. – April 17, 2008 - Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE:MAR) is hosting its second annual Green Fair today at corporate headquarters to educate employees on the company’s internal green efforts. Marriott vendors and business units will showcase soon-to-see hotel amenities including recyclable Bic pens, low VOC paints and wall coverings, organic food options, fuel-efficient vehicles and more.
“Last year’s fair created an internal buzz that has resonated throughout the company,” said Mari Snyder, vice president, social responsibility and community engagement. “It’s a great way to engage our employees and associates on how the company is implementing environmentally-friendly initiatives at every touch point.”
Marriott recently announced a number of programs to engage employees including the Hertz Green Collection, Marriott’s new green rental car program which will provide fuel-efficient vehicles – 30 miles to the gallon or better – for business travel. Also this year, Marriott announced Eco-Flowers, a program which supplies hotels with flowers directly from fields free of pesticides and chemicals. Additional company programs explore organic food and beverage options, in-room recycling, and greener meetings.
Marriott was recently featured in the new True Green @ Work book for its global initiatives to become a more sustainable company. Such initiatives include the recently announced, first-of-its-kind partnership with the State of Amazonas in Brazil to create a fund to protect the Brazilian rainforest and provide guests the opportunity to offset their stay.
