Hotel del Coronado unveils a $2 million meeting rooms renovation

H&MM Week In Review

Coronado, CA--The legendary Hotel del Coronado unveiled a dramatic $2 million renovation of its meeting rooms in September. Interior designers Looney and Associates from Chicago gave each venue a new, fresh look. New plush carpets were designed for all areas, emphasizing brighter colors and larger-scaled designs. They also selected new paint and wall-coverings to brighten the space and give it an updated appearance. Significant architectural updates were performed on the ceiling to help underline the new clean, fresh feel.

In the Victorian Oceanfront Ballroom, the designers worked with the "rotunda" shape of the room to create a more interesting carpet design, as seen in the center of the room with a round "bouquet" of flowers. The designers researched and modified traditional Victorian patterns to become cleaner, more contemporary versions. The color palette reflects the environmental seaside surroundings, with blues and greens on top of a subtle, textured background. The paint colors, wall-coverings and draperies represent a light, fresh and neutral color palette. The Oceanfront Ballroom is 12,567 square feet and can accommodate large groups up to 1,110 in theater-style seating and 720 in banquet-style seating.

In the California Cabanas meeting rooms, the carpet designs emphasize brighter colors and larger scale-motifs. The carpet backgrounds in these smaller rooms are reminiscent of the Victorian Oceanfront Ballroom, but have a more playful and contemporary overlay to suit this modern venue. The art selected is reflective of the carpet design: bright and lively, pulling some blue and green hues from the carpet and again recalling the beautiful oceanfront surroundings. The California Cabanas Building has a total of eleven meeting rooms varying in size from 363 square feet to 3,974 square feet.

In Grande Hall, bright reds contrasted with greens and blues characterize the carpet palettes, with large-scale pattern overlays. This carpet has a traditional element at its border, with a more contemporary flower pattern in the middle, much like the California Cabanas meeting rooms. New bright and contemporary art, located on a neutral textured wall-covering, quickly gave this area a new look. The Grande Hall entrance unfolds to the staircase with a bold and pronounced inset rug and a large-scaled, antiqued mirror to add a feeling of glamour. Upstairs in the ballrooms, custom-designed chandeliers fill the large ceilings with elegant, bowl-shaped bodies and gold-leaf mica finish. The pre-function area was updated with new furniture, mirrors and dramatic art as well. Grande Hall is nearly 11,000 square feet and can accommodate groups up to 1,288 in theater-style seating and 920 in banquet-style seating.

Located on 28 oceanfront acres and offering 65,000 square feet of event space, the Hotel del Coronado is San Diego's premier meeting resort. With indoor, outdoor and oceanfront facilities, combined with an elegant Victorian ambiance, superb cuisine and friendly service, The Del provides a wonderful setting for corporate meetings, conferences, corporate retreats, teambuilding programs and workshops. The Del's distinctive San Diego conference rooms and meeting facilities offer spectacular views, inspire creativity, entertain, reward and impress corporate associates and clients alike.
